Triangle Tennis Challenge Brings Touring Pros & Top Collegians to Raleigh
Tournament at NCSU’s Dail Outdoor Tennis Stadium to Benefit Ovarian Cancer Research
Raleigh, N.C. – Local tennis fans are in for a big treat as the Atlantic Tire & Service Triangle Tennis Challenge brings touring pros and top collegiate players to Raleigh to compete for $45,000 in prize money. Proceeds from the tournament, to be held Nov. 15 through Nov. 19 at the Dail Outdoor Tennis Stadium at N.C. State’s J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center, will benefit ovarian cancer research.
Professionals committed to the event include:
Donald Young – In 2005, became the youngest and first African-American to attain year-end No. 1 junior ranking. Young has captured the junior titles at both Wimbledon and the Australian Open. Has ranked as high as No. 38 on the men’s circuit, and had a memorable run to the Round of 16 at the 2011 US Open.
Wayne Odesnik – Originally from South Africa, Odesnik moved to the United States with his family at age three. Has ranked as high as No. 77 in the world and has competed at the US Open and Australian Open.
Ryler DeHeart – Former ATP player reached a career high ranking of No. 174 in singles and No. 120 in doubles in the world. DeHeart played on the professional tour for nearly a decade and has competed in all four Grand Slams.
Jesse Witten – A standout on the University of Kentucky’s tennis teams from 2001 to 2005, he qualified for the French Open and Wimbledon in 2010. He reached the third round of the US Open in 2009. His career high singles ranking is No. 163.
Additional touring pros are being added daily.
Tickets for the event are just $15 per day, or $50 for a tournament pass. Courtside individual tickets are $25 per day, or $100 for a courtside tournament pass. Tickets may be purchased through www.ovarianawareness.org, and proceeds will help fund ovarian cancer research.
The J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center is located at 1080 Varsity Drive in Raleigh. The state-of-the-art Dail Outdoor Tennis Stadium was completed in 2011 and features six lighted courts, chairback seating for up to 1,000 spectators, and an electronic scoreboard.
The Atlantic Tire & Service Triangle Tennis challenge will also feature top collegians from the ACC, Big Ten, PAC-12 and SEC. “We’ve got the top three ranked college men and top two men’s doubles teams,” said tournament organizer Jay Lewandowski, owner of Game Set Match Tennis. “You’re going to see some very high-level tennis being played at this event.”
