Doctors Vision Center’s Medical Director Key Note Speaker at Macular Degeneration Association Symposium
Raleigh, N.C. – September 12, 2012 –Dr. Peter Hollis, Medical Director at Doctors Vision Center, as well as, Nitin Gupta, M.D. and Carey Pate, M.D. of Taylor Retina Center will be the featured speakers at the “Living with Macular Degeneration” symposium on Saturday, Sept. 22, at North Carolina State University’s McKimmon Conference and Training Center. Hosted by the Macular Degeneration Association, the “Living with Macular Degeneration” symposium is part of the Macular Degeneration Symposium Series, also co-sponsored by Doctors Vision Center.
“Age-Macular Degeneration is the leading cause of vision loss in adults over 50. It is vital the general public is knowledgeable on the disease and it is our job as eye care professionals to provide the necessary education and resources to the community,” notes Dr. Hollis. “I am honored to be taking part in an event that educates and empowers macular degeneration patients, as well as, those who may be at risk.”
Drs. Hollis, Gupta, and Pate will be presenting on the dangers of vision loss as a result of macular degeneration and the importance of genetic testing. Dr. Hollis will be specifically focusing on the revolutionary Macula Risk Test, a genetic test predicting the likelihood of developing advanced Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD).
“There have been great advances when it comes to Age-Related Macular Degeneration. I feel it is important to advocate the use of technological developments such as the Macula Risk Test. AMD patients need to know there are options to lead more comfortable lives and those at risk need to aware of preventative treatments or early intervention,” said Dr. Hollis.
In addition to Dr. Hollis being the featured speaker, representatives from Doctors Vision Center, Taylor Retina Center and Macula Risk will be on hand to answer questions to any one who attends.
