Music festival scheduled in Chatham
If you love music, set aside Saturday,Aug. 27, because a day of music ranging from rock to country to Americana is scheduled at Shakori Hills in Chatham County.
“WoodsRock III will be family-friendly entertainment that gives musical groups an opportunity to strut their chops and families an opportunity to enjoy a diverse and fun day,” said Ann Kaiyala, spokesperson at Woods Charter School in Chatham County.
Bands scheduled include Puzzle, Great Big Gone, Stratocruiser, Delta Rae, Tim Smith Band, Saludos Company and Killer.
It all begins at 10 a.m. with music by Girls Rock NC, a session by Woods music teacher Matt Vooris and his Camp Bands, the Faculty Band, and Morgan’s End. The professional bands begin at 12:30 p.m. Festivities end at 7:15 p.m.
Food and soft drinks will be for sale and there will be arts and crafts tables. This will be an alcohol-free event. Other activities include a bounce house, a water slideand free tie-dyeing with the purchase of a WoodsRock tee-shirt.
Tickets are $12 for a family and $5 for individual tickets. Tickets bought in advance at Woods Charter School come with a free raffle ticket toward a vehicle oil change. Shakori Hills will open at 9:30 a.m. and people may bring their own food and drinks, though bags and coolers will be inspected.

Sponsored by the Woods Charter School Foundation, WoodsRock III will raise money for the school’s transportation needs. “Like all public charter schools, Woods is required to buy our own buses and maintain all transportation costs and this festival is our major transportation fund-raising event,” said Ms. Kaiyala.
